The new race made it's debut on Sunday 4th June with 248 entries on a very hilly course that proved quite tough for most runners. The sun was shining, perhaps a bit on the hot side for racing but no-one seemed to be complaining after weeks of rain ! 

The race had a great finish with Paul Dobson of Springfield Striders in the lead at 200 metres from the finish but Dale Laughlin gave a final push and passed Paul with 150 metres to go, winning the race by 2 seconds in 27.00. Dale has been out of competitive racing for a few years but made a brilliant comeback by winning the first Tilty Hilly 5. Dale holds the course record for the Dunmow 5 which has now been replaced by this race. His time of 24.13 set in 1997 proved impossible to better by any runner since.

In the Ladies race, new signing for Springfield Maxine Oxlade had been battling it out with Team mate Sarah Tucker until the final hill through the village where Sarah had to pull out feeling dizzy. Maxine went on to win the Ladies race in 32.21.
