A few days in the life ........of our club......

Barclays Race for Business ...Howe Street 5 ... South Downs Marathon ... Southend Half Marathon ... Ipswich Friday 5 ... Edinburgh Marathon

What a weekend for our club, with runners out all over the Country competing in different races. Going back to last Wednesday we had 4 runners in the Barclays Race for Business in Chelmsford, Friday 24 raced in the Howe Street 5 and 1 club member in the Ipswich Friday 5. On Sunday we had 3 at the South Downs Marathon, at least 2 at the Southend Half Marathon and 1 at The Edinburgh Marathon.

On Wednesday 1500 runners took part in the Barclays Race for Business. Our 4 runners did us proud with John Willoughby coming 13th (19.57), Alan Barnard 51st (21.49), Rob Gall 61st (22.18) and a massive 6 minute PB from the same race last year by Angela Allin 258th (26.05). Angela joined the club 1 year ago and has worked hard at her training and is now reaping the rewards !

Another good turnout from the club last Friday with 24 of us racing in the Howe Street 5 miles. The race is the 2nd in the Club Championship series and has already created some friendly competitiveness amongst us. On a course that has PB potential the warm conditions made things tough for a fast time but there were some fine performances non the less.

A great run from Anita Cox saw her leading the Ladies team home for the 1st time and coming 3rd in the Ladies race. Steve Reed was 1st in again for the men coming 5th overall. Probably the biggest achievement from the club was both the Men and the Ladies winning the Team awards, something that hasn't happened since the Halstead Marathon in 1998 !

There are too may good runs to single out so I have listed our Club Team Results below. Please let me know if yours was a PB.           Full Results click here.

Also at the weekend, after racing in the Howe Street 5 on Friday, Chris, Pru and Howard raced in the South Downs Marathon on Sunday. Yet another day of temperatures around 30c made this  off road, hilly marathon a rather character building experience! Pru came 3rd lady (4.25) (even after getting a bit lost), Howard came 9th overall (3.50) and received an award for 1st vet 50. Chris (not known for his liking of marathons) finished looking remarkably good! (5.00).

At Southend we had at least 2 more out there in the heat with Angela Allin and Sandra Smith, both of whom had run in the Howe Street 5 on Friday. The heat took it's toll on the girls times but were both pleased to have finished ! This was Angela's 3rd race since last Wednesday when she also run in the Barclays Race for Business at Chelmsford.
