Hatfield Broad Oak 10k

The club had the biggest ever turnout at a single race at Hatfield Broad Oak on Bank Holiday Monday with 40 club members taking part. The race is the 1st in the 2006 Club Championship Series. Steve Reed led the men home in a superb time of 36.19 despite having to ease back with a crippling stitch at around 6k. The 1st five men all came in under 39 minutes with Mark Eden make his club debut in a road race in a personal best of 37.30. Howard Jardine, Richard Humphrey and Nick Laughton followed closely behind with Richard taking over 2 minutes from his previous best time and Nick by 30 seconds..

In the Ladies race, the team were led home by the seemingly invincible Captain Pru Hayhow in 42.10 followed by personal bests from the next 6 Ladies, Anita Cox (42.40), Jules Reeves (45.26), Julie Jenkins (46.10), Sophie Da Silva (46.49), Emma Copeman (46.53) and Sarah McLagan (48.28). A fantastic achievement by all. 

Angela Allin and Sandra Smith ran the race of their lives too both achieving PB's, the latter by a massive PB by 8 minutes 50 seconds. Two Ladies made their debut for the club..  Brenda ( 55.40) and Karen Thurlow (56.00). Steve Blakey and Karl Manning also sliced chunks from previous best times. 

Best wishes from all of us to Sandra Blakey for a speedy return to running after her collapsing at the end of the race and needing medical attention. 

The next race in the Club Championship is on Friday June 9th and is the Springfield Striders 5 mile race from The Green Man at Howe Street. Another large turnout is expected from our club.
